With summer around the corner, get these events on your calendar now. Aurora Downtown is bringing back several of its popular events as well as a new one, and they are all free to enjoy.

Aurora Arts Weekend

Aurora Arts Weekend will officially kick off the season on June 4 and 5. Aurora Arts Weekend promotes both First Fridays on June 4 and Fox River Arts Ramble on June 5. Both dates will feature art shows by local artists at eight locations downtown.

Wednesdays at the Plaza

Wednesdays at the Plaza, a free summer concert series, will return to the gazebo at Millennium Plaza on Stolp Avenue from July 14 to August 11. The concerts will feature a variety of genres and local bands from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Movies at a Museum

New this year is Movies at a Museum, an outdoor film series pilot kicking off on July 8 at Aurora Regional Fire Museum. The series presented in conjunction with Aurora Film Society features classic and throwback films. The series is weekly on Thursdays during July. Socially-distanced seating areas open at 7 p.m. and movies start at 8 p.m. Dates are July 8: Bringing Up Baby, July 15: The Iron Giant, July 22: Akeelah and the Bee, and July 29: Smoke Signals.

Alley Art Fest

Alley Art Festival will possibly return to Water Street Mall on August 28 from noon to 5 p.m. Local and regional artists as well as local musicians are always part of the activities.

Although final details are still being worked out, having the event back in its original location is welcomed. This summer, the festival will coincide with live mural planning throughout downtown coordinated by Aurora Public Art.

First Fridays & a Food Truck Court

First Fridays will continue through the summer with the exception of July. First Fridays will feature a Food Truck Court with a handful of food trucks from 5 to 9 p.m. at Water Street Square located at the northwest corner of Benton and Water streets. The next First Fridays will be on June 4.

All events are free to attend.
