The Cotton Seed Creative Exchange, located at 8 N. Broadway opened on September 6 during First Fridays.
Owner Yvonne Thompson is a military veteran who left the Navy and then received a degree in business. Thompson has always loved restoring items and creating things, and she was able to accomplish one of her dreams by opening her own business focused on creativity.
Yvonne Thompson took the opportunity to open The Cotton Seed Creative Exchange in downtown Aurora when space was available. She likes how the downtown has changed and become a “destination spot.” Thompson grew up in the north side of Chicago and stated that “downtown Aurora reminds me of home.”
The Cotton Seed Creative Exchange is a business focused on creativity where the vendors or as they call them, creative partners bring in handmade items. It also deals with furniture restoration and has finishing paint available for customers to purchase. It has one of a kind handmade and gift items perfect for the holiday season. Some of the creative partners are The Unruly Artist, Started with a Mason Jar, and Pantera’s Place. Cotton Seed Creative Exchange is looking for more creative partners and vendors for pop-ups.
The Cotton Seed Creative Exchange has been involved with First Fridays since September and Thompson states that “they will be apart of the event every time they can.” She enjoys how First Fridays bring the community and businesses together and “allows businesses to be seen.”
Yvonne Thompson’s goal is for the store to evolve and have even more elements of creativity. She is also interested in having small group classes in the future that deal with topics from creativity to business. Cotton Seed will also be offering a once a month 10% military discount, the date is still to be determined but follow their Facebook page for more information!
