One Paragraph Review: Legally Blonde at Paramount Theatre

Legally Blonde opened on September 5 at Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora. Whether you’ve seen the movie a hundred times or none at all, Paramount’s energetic stage production will leave you head over heels for Elle Woods. Woods, played to perfection by Casey Shuler, is the best friend that everyone wants, and luckily there’s enough endearing positivity to go around. Positive energy fills the stage and pulls in the audience with one upbeat song and dance after another. Legally Blonde is a feel good pick-me-up. An incredibly designed set fits seemlessly into the story, and additions of larger-than-life technology add a fun touch of 2018. Woods stands up for herself from beginning to end, although she takes some hard knocks to get to know herself. A superb cast, progressive LED lights, and a spunky story show that a positive attitude with a healthy dose of self confidence and loyalty go a long way in the pursuit of happiness. In a world of uplifting memes, Woods is the real deal.

Paramount Theatre’s Legally Blonde, directed by Paramount Artistic Associate and Casting Director Trent Stork with music direction by Kory Danielson, is the first production in its 2018-2019 Broadway Series. Based on the 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, the musical follows Delta Nu sorority sister, Elle Woods, to the hallowed halls of Harvard Law School as she proves staying true to yourself never goes out of style. Performances run through October 21 at Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd. in downtown Aurora. For tickets and information, visit paramountaurora.com or call (630) 896-6666. The show is rated PG-13.
